Listen & Learn Summary posted, Planning process continues in the Fall

Thank You for sharing your voice and your views with the district. We’ve posted a summary of community feedback from the Listen & Learn meetings conducted throughout the community by Kingscott. This summary captures the commonly recurring themes from the many comments shared by the community. Lakeshore Public Schools appreciates all the comments expressed during these sessions. After gaining community input through sixteen “Listen and Learn” sessions and four Facility Improvement Team sessions, Lakeshore Public Schools (LPS) officials have announced that meetings geared toward gathering additional public opinion evaluating what LPS can do about providing the best 21st century learning environments will resume later this fall. LPS leadership would like to thank all members of their community who have participated in these processes to date, and considers the time and valuable input gained a clear example of the partnership between LPS and its students, families and community.
Out of these meetings three themes have emerged.
1. Any process must be undertaken in a partnership with the community
2. All plans must incorporate responsible stewardship of resources
3. Our project must be about providing 21st century learning opportunities that allow our children to compete in a global economy
“We’ve gathered a great deal of input and suggestions and will now carefully review and prioritize them,” said LPS Superintendent Cindy Vujea. She also noted that established and respected community members Ned Totzke, Pete Whitehead and Bill Idoni have agreed to lead the district’s engagement and planning process as it moves forward.
“In the meantime, design and construction professionals will continue working with the district steering committee to develop a strategic plan regarding improvements essential to providing LPS students the state-of-the-art, quality education they need, and deserve, to effectively compete in the 21st century. As this strategic plan evolves we will re-engage with the community in the fall. Again our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated to date. We are listening,” said Vujea.
